Appearing in 1987 as the modern face of gold bullion coins for the Royal Mint, the goddess Britannia is known to be the guardian of the British Isles. The British gold Britannia coins offered from 1987 through 2012 were produced with a .917 gold content. All coins struck in and then after 2013 are .9999 fine gold. In 2021 a security feature was added, including micro-text in Latin. The Latin reads “Decus Et Tutamen,” which translates to “An Ornament and a Safeguard. The Britannia coin is recognized and trusted worldwide and is sought after by investors and institutions alike.
