Niue is a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand. It is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometers northeast of New Zealand. Niue mints coins under the New Zealand dollar denomination for the purpose of collection. The country began issuing coins in 1966, mostly bullion and non-circulating commemorative coins, and are acceptable as legal tender in Niue.
