The Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) has introduced NGCX, a 10-point coin grading scale. This scale is based on the standard grading scale used for other collectibles, such as comic books, sports cards, and trading cards. NGCX aligns with current expectations for coin grading, and the 10-point scale makes it easier for new collectors to understand. The NGCX 10-point scale is based on a 70-point scale introduced by Dr. William Sheldon in the 1940s, which is still the industry standard. NGCX 10 is equivalent to NGC 70, which represents the highest grade. The NGCX 9.9 is equivalent to NGC 69, which is a fully-struck coin with nearly imperceptible imperfections. The NGC is known for being a leader in third-party coin certification, and the introduction of NGCX makes it easier for new collectors to join the hobby.
